Abstract

In one of the rare times, he decided to discuss the political situation of his time, Leo Strauss examines the relationship between nihilism and National Socialism. It is a conference given in 1941 in which we find both a perceptive analysis of a troubled political context and the announcement of certain themes that will be later developed throughout Strauss's intellectual career. Our objective, in this work, is to revisit the central aspects of this analysis and, from there, demonstrate its relevance for a better understanding of his political thought.

Helton Machado Adverse, Federal University of Minas Gerais

Professor Titular do Departamento de Filosofia da UFMG. Bolsista em produtividade do CNPq. Publica trabalhos na área da filosofia política, em especial, sobre a filosofia política do Renascimento italiano e sua recepção na contemporaneidade.
Doutor em Filosofia pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2003), é professor titular do Departamento de Filosofia da mesma universidade. É bolsista em produtividade do CNPq. Tem experiência na área de Filosofia, com ênfase em Filosofia Política Moderna e do Renascimento e História da Filosofia. Mais recentemente, tem realizado pesquisas sobre o pensamento político do Renascimento, em especial, Maquiavel, e o pensamento político contemporâneo (Hannah Arendt, Leo Strauss e Claude Lefort).
