This text presents the trajectory of both image and written word, from their genesis to the advent of the printed book around 1450. The proposed approach consists in a collage of evolutionary periods of mankind as a background to justify the relationship between verbal and non-verbal language. The text is divided into four sections that explore the evolution of image in different cultures through a chronological study.
