The aim of this study is to investigate the repercussions of lingual frenotomy on breastfeeding of babies diagnosed with ankyloglossia. Integrative literature review in SciELO and BVS. In BVS the indexed databases were selected: MEDLINE and LILACS. The descriptors were used: Ankyloglossia, Breast Feeding, Infant, Newborn and Infant. Inclusion criteria were: articles published in portuguese, english and/or spanish, in the period from 2012 to 2022, with full text available online. Non-original studies, case reports, articles that did not contemplate the research subject and articles that did not answer the research question of this integrative review were excluded. After applying the eligibility criteria, 12 articles were selected. Lingual frenotomy performed in babies diagnosed with ankyloglossia was associated with positive results in breastfeeding in all analyzed studies. Reduction of maternal nipple pain after lingual frenotomy was observed in 9 included studies. No serious complications during or after the procedure were reported in any of the studies. It is concluded that lingual frenotomy is a safe procedure with positive results in breastfeeding babies diagnosed with ankyloglossia. However, there is still no consensus on the subject in the literature, so it is important to address realistic expectations with those responsible for the expected results.
