Abstract

Objective: Assess the opinion of students and health professionals on in situ simulations of PPH cases. Method: From July 2023 to January 2024, simulations of postpartum hemorrhage cases were carried out at the care locations (Obstetric Center, shared accommodation ward) of Hospital Universitário da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina - HU-UFSC/Ebserh. The research was carried out through questionnaires completed online by the simulation participants. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and the open responses through content analysis. Results: 46 people participated in the study (22 undergraduate students, 7 residents in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 17 hospital professionals). The most prevalent feelings were anticipation and curiosity, and some participants reported fear, anxiety, and distress. Almost all respondents felt satisfied with the simulation, reported having learned new maneuvers and improved their knowledge. Content analysis of open-ended responses revealed categories such as satisfaction, fear/discomfort, and inability to suspend disbelief. The following were mentioned regarding the need for changes perceived after the simulation: improved communication and synchrony among the team and more study time. Participants reported differences between reality and the simulation, but perceived greater efficiency and safety/tranquility in subsequent care. Final Considerations: We conclude that in situ simulations are effective in training health professionals for critical situations such as postpartum hemorrhage.
