Abstract

Objective: To identify the knowledge and adherence of the nursing team regarding the prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis through aerosol transmission at the hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study was conducted in a private hospital located in the Belo Horizonte region, MG. A total of 66 nursing professionals were included, who answered a structured questionnaire. Results: The nursing team demonstrated adequate knowledge regarding preventive measures, the dynamics of aerosol-generated particles, and the proper use of N95/PFF2 masks. However, the nursing technicians showed inadequate performance regarding knowledge of recommended precautions for pulmonary tuberculosis (p=0.03). Concerning adherence, there were observed failures in providing surgical masks to patients during transportation (60%). Conclusion: Knowledge and adherence regarding pulmonary tuberculosis transmitted via aerosol need improvement, especially among nursing technicians.
