Introduction: The new epidemiological situation facing SARS-CoV-2 virus infection brings the need to identify the sociodemographic and clinical profile of the pediatric population. Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and clinical profile of pediatric patients with COVID-19 admitted to Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria (HUSM) from March to May 2021. Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional pilot study. Sociodemographic, clinical and disease outcome variables were collected from medical records. Results: The sample consisted of 10 patients, 6 males (60%), with a median age of 33.5 (11.5-95) months and 7 (70%) were born at term. The median length of hospital stay comprised 8 (5.2-24) days and the length of stay in the Intensive Care Unit was 0.5 (0-5.7) days. In addition, 6 patients used oxygen support (60%) and 3 invasive mechanical ventilation (30%). One or more previous comorbidities were observed in 7 patients, predominantly respiratory and cardiovascular. Conclusion: These preliminary results are relevant, as they may assist in the planning of a set of actions focused on the levels of health care for this population affected by COVID-19.
