Microfinace organization: innovations and challenges for the financial inclusion

DOI: 10.5902/198346593826 The aim of this paper is to review the literature on microfinance organizations and discuss theoretical and methodological shortcomings, highlighting the innovations and challenges for financial inclusion of low-income populations. It is noticed that despite the microfinance organizations present significant advances in operational terms, mainly in lending methodologies through mechanisms of selection and monitoring consistent with their socio-political aims, they collide in the dilemma between financial viability and expand its social base toward the poorest.
