Abstract

The present work aimed at the development and analysis of a dynamometer for characterizing the performance of Savonius turbines in a controlled wind tunnel environment. The dynamometer, designed to measure torque and power, was used to evaluate a scaled-down turbine with a 60 mm diameter, dimensioned based on maximum values found in the literature for Savonius-type turbines. A detailed analysis of the measurement uncertainties was conducted to ensure the reliability of the results. The analysis revealed lower uncertainty at 12 m/s, with coefficient of power (Cp) of 3.8%, coefficient of torque (Ct) of 3.1%, and tip speed ratio (TSR) of 2.2%. The results demonstrate the suitability of the dynamometer for wind tunnel tests at this velocity.
