Linear friction stir welding in API 5L X65 PSL2 steel

Linear friction welding (LFW) was applied to low alloy high-strenght (HSLA) API 5L X65 PSL2 steel, and a characterization of the welded joint was performed. In this study, metallographic analyses were carried out by optical microscopy to verify the microstructure, while the mechanical properties were evaluated by a microhardness test. This solid-state joining process was effective in the API X65 PSL2 steel, where the welded joint showed no defects and higher microhardness as compared to that of the base material, indicating an improvement in the steel’s mechanical properties after LFW.
