Abstract

This work involved the design of a truss bridge model using popsicle sticks based on models previously reported in the literature and technical standards. Wooden popsicle sticks and multipurpose glue were employed for the construction of the truss bridge. The project was divided into several stages, including structural design, strength and stability calculations, model assembly, and load testing. The FTOOL software was utilized to assist in obtaining internal forces in the bars. The sticks were glued together to form the truss-shaped structure. Finally, the bridge underwent load tests to assess its strength and stability. Progressive loads were applied until failure occurred at 160 kgf, 20% lower than the predicted value. Nevertheless, the performance of the popsicle stick bridge was deemed quite satisfactory.
