Focus and Scope

The Journal of Exact Sciences and Technological Applications (JESTA) is an open-access scientific journal dedicated to the publication of original research articles and review articles in the various subfields of chemistry, physics, and mathematics, as well as their scientific and technological applications.

The journal’s scope particularly encompasses research related to engineering, materials science and technology, energy, the environment, nanotechnology, mathematical modelling, instrumentation, scientific methods, experimental procedures, technological development, and interdisciplinary studies grounded in the exact sciences.

JESTA seeks to bring together theoretical, experimental, and applied contributions within a single editorial platform, promoting convergence among different fields of knowledge and encouraging the exchange of ideas among researchers, faculty members, professionals, and postgraduate students.

Submitted manuscripts must present an original scientific or technological contribution, demonstrate relevance to the respective field of knowledge, and be supported by an appropriate methodological framework.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to JESTA initially undergo a preliminary editorial assessment to verify their suitability for the journal’s focus and scope, compliance with the Author Guidelines, overall presentation quality, and adherence to research integrity requirements.

Manuscripts considered suitable are forwarded for double-blind peer review, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain concealed throughout the evaluation process.

As a standard procedure, each manuscript is submitted to at least two external reviewers with expertise in the subject area of the study. Reviewers assess, among other aspects:

  • the originality and relevance of the contribution;

  • scientific and methodological consistency;

  • the quality of the analysis and discussion of the results;

  • the appropriateness of the references;

  • the clarity, organisation, and overall quality of the presentation;

  • the contribution of the study to scientific or technological advancement.

Reviewers are expected to submit their reports within the timeframe established by the editorial team.

In cases of substantial disagreement between the reviewers’ reports, the responsible editor may request an evaluation by a third reviewer. The number of reviewers may also be increased when required by the interdisciplinary nature or complexity of the manuscript.

Editorial decisions may include:

  • acceptance;

  • acceptance subject to revisions;

  • a request for a further round of peer review;

  • rejection.

The final decision regarding publication rests with the editor, based on the reviewers’ reports, the authors’ responses, and compliance with the journal’s editorial policies.

Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents and disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could compromise the impartiality of their evaluation.

Publication Frequency and Continuous Publication

JESTA accepts submissions on a continuous basis, with no specific deadline for manuscript submission.

Once the peer review, editorial revision, standardisation, and production processes have been completed, approved articles are published individually as soon as they are ready for publication.

Articles published under the continuous publication model are organised into a maximum of two issues per year, in accordance with the journal’s editorial planning.

Open Access Policy

JESTA provides immediate, free, and open access to all its content, with no embargo period.

This policy is based on the principle that free access to scientific research results contributes to the democratisation of knowledge, expands the dissemination of publications, and supports scientific, technological, educational, and social development.

Readers may access the full text of all published articles without any subscription, registration, or payment requirement.

Submission and Publication Fees

JESTA does not charge authors any fees at any stage of the editorial process.

The journal does not charge:

  • submission fees;

  • peer review fees;

  • editorial processing fees;

  • article publication charges;

  • access fees for published content.

The peer review, editorial processing, and publication of approved manuscripts are provided entirely free of charge.

Ethics and Research Integrity

Manuscripts submitted to JESTA must be original and unpublished and may not be simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

Authors are responsible for the authenticity and accuracy of the data, results, images, tables, references, and all other information presented in the manuscript.

The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication or manipulation, falsification of results, duplicate publication, inappropriate attribution of authorship, or any other practice incompatible with research integrity.

Manuscripts may be subjected to procedures and software tools for textual similarity screening. When ethical irregularities are identified, the editorial team may suspend the review process, reject the manuscript, or take any other appropriate editorial action.

Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and identify all funding sources associated with the research.

Research involving human participants, animals, or other circumstances requiring ethical approval must, where applicable, provide information regarding approval by the relevant ethics committee or responsible authority.

Articles published by JESTA are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International Licence — CC BY-NC 4.0.

This licence allows the content to be shared and adapted for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the original publication.

The Journal of Exact Sciences and Technological Applications (JESTA) is registered in the Latindex Directory, a regional information system for scientific journals from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal.

The journal also adopts metadata standards and interoperability mechanisms designed to improve the discoverability, dissemination, and visibility of its articles in search engines and academic services.
