The study proposed to investigate conceptions about mathematics and environmental issues related to the local reality, presented from the patterns and behaviors of students of the 6th and 9th grades of elementary school II (ensino fundamental II). The research uses a quantitative approach and exploratory character. The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire applied to 88 students of an elementary school II unit, located in an Environmental Protection Area (APA), on the North Coast of the State of Bahia. The methodological proposal for detecting the behaviors and/or patterns shown by the students consisted of questions of socio-environmental nature correlated with the local community, in order to understand the students' environmental awareness of general and local environmental issues. The students have a positive outlook when they consider the fact that linking environmental issues to mathematics will likely contribute to a better understanding of the world. For 93% of 6th grade students and 100% of 9th grade students, everyone is responsible for taking care of the environment (No = 4; x = 1.091; Yes = ± 0.494). Thus, it is noted the importance of continuing studies on the proposed objective not only for monitoring, but also for the applicability in the empirical field.
2023-12-29T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Monografias Ambientais https://periodicos.ufsm.br/remoa/article/view/69468 Membership of environmental clubs impacts students' awareness and understanding of environmental problems, knowledge and connectedness to nature 2024-01-12T14:13:47-03:00 Kehinde Oluwaseye Ogunjinmi ogunjinmiko@funaab.edu.ng Adekunle Anthony Ogunjinmi aaogunjinmi@futa.edu.ng Adebayo Abraham Adewumi abibay2001@yahoo.com Felicia Itunnu Wole-Alo fiwole-alo@futa.edu.ng Lynda Tayelolu Ogunode ogunodelynda@gmail.com
The study examined the impact of environmental clubs on secondary schools’ students with the aim of determining students’ awareness of environmental problems, knowledge and connectedness to nature. It is a cross-sectional survey. A structured, self-administered questionnaire was used. Seven (7) public schools were randomly selected for this study. A total of 457 students of public schools who were both members (313) and non-members (144) of environmental conservation clubs were surveyed in Akure. Data were analyzed descriptively while the hypothesis was tested with independent- test and simple linear regression. Level of awareness of environmental problems among the students was higher with members of environmental conservation clubs having a higher level of awareness than non-members. It also revealed that the respondents’ knowledge about nature was low and were more knowledgeable on the latest method of biodiversity conservation (297 respondents), State bird of Nigeria (265 respondents), and what is biodiversity (255). Members of environmental conservation clubs also had higher knowledge about nature than non-members. The respondents’ connectedness to nature was very high, members of conservation clubs had higher levels of connectedness to nature than non-members. The study suggests that students’ membership of environmental clubs impacts positively on their awareness of environmental problems, knowledge and connectedness to nature. It is recommended that the role of environmental clubs is made more relevant within the curriculum so as to empower students’ with skills to promote more environmental awareness, knowledge and connectedness to nature.
2023-08-23T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Kehinde Oluwaseye Ogunjinmi, Adekunle Anthony Ogunjinmi, Adebayo Abraham Adewumi, Felicia Itunnu Wole-Alo, Lynda Tayelolu Ogunode https://periodicos.ufsm.br/remoa/article/view/68446 The categorization of Environmental Education and sustainable concepts and attitudes by groups of university students at different stages of training 2024-01-12T14:13:33-03:00 Karina Braccini Pereira karinapereira@unipampa.edu.br Ailton Jesus Dinardi ailtondinardi@unipampa.edu.br Edward Castro Pessano edwardpessano@unipampa.edu.br
This research aimed to investigate Environmental Education (EE) perception of students from an undergraduate course in Natural Sciences and students from a Specialization in Environmental Education at the Federal University of Pampa, as well as identify their understanding of waste generation in their daily lives, considering that EE can contribute to the Campus theoretical-methodological consolidation as a privileged space for the production of social and environmental knowledge, discussions and relevant reflections. The research, of quali-quantitative nature, is part of a larger study and used a semi-structured questionnaire as data collection instrument. The open question about EE conceptions was categorized through Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA); for the question about recycling knowledge, categories were created according to authors' concepts and current legislation. The other questions were analyzed using the event counting method. The results reveal that DTA allowed us to analyze the whole in parts, realizing the impossibility of classifying the individual's thoughts into a single category. Most records, freshmen (41%), finalists (30%) and Specialization students (49%), were identified within the Naturalist category, demonstrating a conservative perception, however. Despite this, we understand categorization not as a division or labeling of thoughts that differ due to formations and visions, but rather to analyze their characteristics to improve them. About sustainable attitudes in everyday life, most mention knowing about selective waste collection, composting and recycling, but a considerable part does not practice these activities.
2023-12-29T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Monografias Ambientais https://periodicos.ufsm.br/remoa/article/view/67961 The garment industry in the municipality of Maringá, Paraná: perceptions on the generation of solid waste 2023-01-05T11:51:32-03:00 Paula Piva Linke paulapivalinke@gmail.com Sílvia Helena Zanirato shzanirato@usp.br
The production and treatment of waste is a problem in today's society and one of the productive sectors that deserves to be highlighted in relation to waste is the one involved with fashion. The clothing manufacturing industry is part of this sector and the generation of waste is significant, especially the fabric retail. In order to analyze the production and destination of this type of waste, the production of clothing in the municipality of Maringá, PR is discussed here. For that, the qualitative approach methodology was used, more specifically the study of multiple cases and applied methods of production and analysis of the semi-structured interview. The study allows us to understand the ways of understanding the problem of waste generation and management from the perspective of actors and institutions directly involved in the process, namely: the owners of the factories, the employees, the public agencies.
2023-12-29T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Monografias Ambientais https://periodicos.ufsm.br/remoa/article/view/65892 Assessment of the knowledge of the population of the municipality of Serraria-PB regarding the disposal of medicines 2024-01-12T14:13:43-03:00 Adolf Hitler Cardoso de Araújo adolf_araujo@hotmail.com
The pharmaceutical industry is one of the main activities that drive the global economy, due to the high population growth, the evolution in the understanding of pathologies and the continuous research involving several substances that can be applied therapeutically. These factors directly influence a greater control of diseases that is due to the constant production, release and use of medicines that have the purpose of preventing, treating, alleviating or diagnosing. Therefore, it is natural to accumulate drug residues that need to be disposed of correctly, however, this does not occur and they are released into the environment, thus causing harmful damage due to the high variability of existing substances in its composition. Given that Brazil is one of the world's largest consumers of medicines, we need to study and understand how and where these substances are ending their life cycle. Due to the need for continuing research on the disposal of medicines and because it is a public and environmental health problem, this study aimed to make a diagnosis of the knowledge of the population of the municipality of Serraria located in the state of Paraíba about the disposal of possible damages generated by the application of improper disposal. Through the application of questionnaires to the residents of the aforementioned municipality, it was possible to confirm the existence of improper disposal of medicines in places that are not prepared for this exposure, being the common waste used as the main form of disposal in the studied municipality. The lack of information and dissemination about the inappropriate disposal and the environmental impacts generated by the drugs proved to be quite evident, so it is necessary to efficiently employ environmental education and awareness so that correct habits are used by residents.
2023-12-29T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Monografias Ambientais https://periodicos.ufsm.br/remoa/article/view/69117 Characterization of gaps in medium-size towns’ sanitation services: case study in the municipality of Inhambupe (BA) 2024-01-12T14:13:31-03:00 Rosa Alencar Santana de Almeida rosaalencar@gmail.com Valdiene Pinto dos Santos valdiene.santos@aluno.ufrb.edu.br
Brazil's sanitation began in the mid-18th century, but the reach of services was irrelevant if compared to its demographic density. However, even in an incipient way, it was an important factor for the country's development. The trajectories the supply of sanitation services at the state and national levels were learned in this research, to understand the current situation and the challenges that are presented to solve the deficiencies found, especially in medium and small cities. The available and applicable legal instruments to improve the scenarios are also investigated. The study area used was the municipality of Inhambupe, which is located in Bahia, the northeast region of Brazil. The methodology used included: characterization of the study area, review of applied legislation, direct observations, and photographic situation records of sanitation services provided in the municipality. The results showed that the sanitation services in the municipality of Inhambupe are insufficient, distributed unequally, so it is necessary to elaborate the Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan (PMSB) and applies the pertinent legislation, at the federal, state and municipal levels, for the services' adequacy provided to citizens.
2023-12-29T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Rosa Alencar Santana de Almeida, Valdiene Pinto dos Santos
