Abstract

This paper presents the lithological units distribution in thehydrographic basins of the Arroios Jaguari Mirim, Inhadiju and Piquiri, that are located in the Western of the Rio Grande do Sul State. These basinsare transitionally inserted between two geomorphologic units in the Stateof Rio Grande do Sul: the Meridional Plateau (Sandstone Plateau - Basaltic)and the Peripheral Depression. According to Müller Filho (1970), this phasetransition is the Plateau Edge. There was noticed a strong structural controlthat guided the sequences deposition and that controls the expositionthrough the erosive processes. Thus, five different units are arranged overthe area: Recent Deposit, Thin Sandstone – Micaceo (identified as Sanga158 Ciência e Natura, UFSM, 29(2): 157 - 172, 2007do Cabral Formation), Sandstones with Granules (Guará Formation),Sandstones without Granules (Botucatu Formation) and six Volcanic Traps.
