Abstract

This paper presents a mapping of the lithology that occurs in theItu river basin. This basin is located in the Western of Rio Grande do SulState - Brazil. According to what has been studied, the basin was dividedinto 5 sections with boundaries given by the geological structures. In section1, volcanic rocks occur. In that section all six traps are present. The section2 stream sandstones mainly occurs. The eolic sandstones and volcanic rocksare present only on the top of the hills. In section three, volcanic rocks andeolics sandstones occurs associated. The section four in low altitude occur streams sandstones. In section five the first and second traps occur andthey are associated with eolic sandstones. In that section, recent deposit isimportant. The control of geological structures take in same topographiclevel lithology with differents stratigraphic position and bassets sandstonesvery susceptible the erosion.
