Abstract

The present study analyzes the results, impacts and lessons fromProVárzea support to fishery resource management projects between 2002and 2007. In this period, 15 projects developed activities in 28 districtsfrom municipalities of Amazonas and Para, involving around 100.000 peopleand promoting the strength of institutions, the raising of local leadership,and improving fishing management system. The participative model of useand management practices by the local communities and institutionssupported by ProVárzea is a new way to integrate government actions withcivil society and making more environmental sustainability for fishingeconomy in Amazonia.
