Abstract

The environmental protection and preservation through the establishment of Preservation Units (PUs) is essential for the sustenance of local features of natural and cultural biodiversity. Thus, the research aimed to perform the PUs survey and analysis present in their Biomes and three levels management in Rio Grande do Sul. For this, was performed using a data the Cadastre National and State of Preservation Units. It was possible to verify the different categories of Preservation Units present in the State of Biomes Pampa, Atlantic Forest, Marinho Costeiro and to analyse the difference in the extent and quantity of PUs in three different Biomes. Was verified that the Atlantic Forest Biome has several PUs, but is the Pampa Biome that presenting largest preservation area (ha), and adding the area of the three Biomes, the total preserved area is 2,62% of State territory. Therefore, the research resulted in relevant information, exposing that the importance of the presence of Preservation Units in State of Rio Grande do Sul is relevant to biodiversity protection and geodiversity and, generic resources and associated cultural.
