Focus and Scope
- Focus -
The journal publishes works of National and International Higher Education Institutions and accepts works in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
In addition, it promotes Special Editions of research groups and postgraduate programs (Lato and Stricto Sensu) that are inserted within the areas mentioned above.
- Scope -
It is a divulgation media for works on Exact and Natural Sciences, especially on Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Geosciences, Geography, Biology, Meteorology as well as Education regarding these areas and the interdisciplinarity between them.
Section Policies
Biology
The Biology Section publishes many types of original researches on the major Biological Sciences area, either Basic or Applied.
Here are the conditions for Submissions in the Biology Section:
- Only article written in ENGLISH, and the Authors should send a Statement that the Article was revised by a specialist in English Grammar.
- Interdisciplinary Papers will be individually evaluated concerning the relevance in the area of Biology. Also, Papers may be forwarded to more appropriate Sections.
- Papers about Biology education must be submitted to the Education Section, and Papers in the Environmental area must be submitted to the Environmental Section.
- Researches that involve Human Beings have to make clear on the Paper the compliance with the rules described on CNS Resolutions 196/96. There must be indicated the approval number emitted by the Ethics Committee (CEP), properly recognized by the National Bioethics Commission of Brazil (CONEP) of the National Health Council (CNS).
This information must be attached as “Supplementary Document”.
- Also, all the scientific names have to be written according to the current International Codes of Nomenclature, and the checklists must to provide vouchers.
- We gently require all Authors to nominate three potential Evaluators at the time of Submission. The suggested names must not be Co-authors and must preferably be from another Institution. The names must be correctly spelled and an email address must be given as a contact for each Author.
- In order to improve efficiency when it comes to the evaluation process, the submitted work must be forwarded straight to the Section Editor. This may be done by the Author when choosing the sub-area where the work BEST fits. The options are:
- Biology - Botany – acronym: BBT;
- Biology - Ecology – acronym: BEC
- Biology - Genetics – acronym: BGN;
- Biology - Zoology – acronym: BZL.
- Themes/Subareas that have been considered for publication in the Biology Section:
- Taxonomy (except description of new species);
- Checklists;
- Basic and Applied Ecology;
- Plant Physiology, specially about native species or basic researches about model species;
- Structural Botany (anatomy/morphology);
- Genetics (except for viruses genetics);
- Ethnobiology (resulting from projects properly approved by Research Ethics Committees).

Peer Review Process
The Ciência e Natura adopts the “Blind” Evaluation by Pairs.
All the submitted Articles are sent initially to the appreciation of two consultants (Doctors) on the focus area of the work. If there is discrepancy on the opinions a third Consultant can be called. It is the Section Editor’s knowledge of will count only one consultant opinion. The editorial decision is emitted based on the Consultants’ Opinions.
It will be sought to the Authors that, when necessary, modify their texts or even that rewrite them on a way to adequate to the Consultants orientations.
This Journal offers a free and immediate access to its contents following the principle that free availability to the scientific knowledge to the public proposes better world democratization of the knowledge.
It is MANDATORY* to include 3 possible Evaluators with Full Name and E-mail (Send as “Supplementary Document”).

Publication Frequency
From 2018 we will have CONTINUOUS PUBLICATION.
Open Access Policy
The Ciência e Natura Journal offers a free and immediate access to its contents following the principle that free availability to the scientific knowledge to the public proposes better world democratization of the knowledge.
Archiving
The Ciência e Natura Journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a filing system distributed amongst libraries and it allows them to create permanent files of the journal to preservation and restoration.
